New Ad Exposes How Obama Wants All Laws Reducing Abortion Overturned
Washington, DC (LifeNews.com) -- The Family Research Council PAC has launched a new television ad that focuses voters' attention on a bill that Barack Obama says would be his first to sign as president. The measure would make unlimited abortions a national law and overturn every abortion limit approved in all 50 states. The bill, known as the Freedom of Choice Act, is one Obama told Planned Parenthood in July 2007 he would not just sign but make his first piece of legislation. "What would you do as President," the ad asks viewers. "Fix the economy? End the war? Restore our schools?" The ad moves to the Planned Parenthood speech and features footage of Obama saying, "Well the first thing I'd do as president is sign the Freedom of Choice Act." The female narrator responds, "Really? Obama's top priority as president will be a law to reinstate partial-birth abortion? Eliminate parental notification? Force taxpayers to fund abortions?" The ad goes back to Obama's Planned Parenthood speech and shows footage of him saying, "On this fundamental issue, I will not yield and Planned Parenthood will not yield." The narrator concludes: "Barack Obama, dangerous values." Full story at LifeNews.com

Associated Press Continues Covering Up Barack Obama's Pro-Abortion Views
Washington, DC (LifeNews.com) -- A recent study showed the mainstream media were taking a pass on any discussion of Barack Obama's abortion pro-abortion views. The Associated Press was part of the problem with a brief description of where Obama stands and now the news service has omitted his position entirely. For months, AP has maintained a two-page summary of Obama's and John McCain's stands on various top political issues. Most of the brief position descriptions contain a paragraph or two for each candidate on the given issue. When it comes to abortion, however, the Associated Press included just three short words for Obama: "Supports abortion rights." Never mind that Obama supports abortion throughout pregnancy for any reason, has voted repeatedly for taxpayer-funding of abortion, and opposes a ban on partial-birth abortions. AP also failed to mention anything about Obama's position saying he will sign a bill that would make unlimited abortions the national law and overturn every pro-life law nationwide. Nor did it include any mention of the controversy surrounding his votes in the Illinois legislature against bills to make sure hospital staff provide adequate medical care for newborns who survive failed abortions. On Monday, AP re-released the dossier on the candidates and excluded Obama's position entirely. Full story at LifeNews.com.

Women's Group to Tell 1.3 Million Pro-Life Voters how Obama is Pro-Abortion
Washington, DC (LifeNews.com) -- If the Susan B. Anthony List is successful, a new voter outreach program will connect 1.3 million voters in battleground states with information about where the presidential candidates stand on abortion. The pro-life women's group hopes that will help make a difference in the results next month. “Today the Susan B. Anthony List’s efforts to educate and mobilize over one million pro-life voters have kicked into high gear,” SBA List president Marjorie Dannenfelser told LifeNews.com on Monday. With the mainstream media giving scant coverage to the issue of abortion and the clear divide that exists between Barack Obama and John McCain, pro-life groups like SBA List are taking the message directly to voters. “The Susan B. Anthony List’s efforts will play an invaluable educational role over the next few weeks. While Barack Obama avoids his legislative record of opposing protections for abortion survivors, we are there to stand up for the truth," she said. Dannenfelser told LifeNews.com the voter outreach project will also help pro-life candidates in key Senate and House races. Full story at LifeNews.com

Planned Parenthood Opposes Abortion Votes in Colorado, California, South Dakota
Washington, DC (LifeNews.com) -- Planned Parenthood of America, the nation's largest abortion business, has come out against three statewide ballot proposals that deal with abortion. The pro-abortion group emailed its supporters over the weekend attacking the efforts in California, Colorado, and South Dakota. The abortion business also went further, calling the pro-life advocates in each of the three states "extremists" for promoting the protection of human life. In California, pro-life advocates have put a measure allowing for parental notification before an abortion on the state ballot. Colorado voters will consider a personhood measure that defines human life as beginning at conception and South Dakota voters will consider a second attempt at banning most abortions. "The same anti-choice extremists who are trumpeting the McCain/Palin ticket are behind several outrageous initiatives in states across the country," Planned Parenthood president Cecile Richards said in the email. "I'm talking about Colorado, where — get this — a small group of extremists has put an initiative on the ballot that would amend the state constitution to grant due process and equality of justice rights to embryos from the moment of fertilization," she said. Richards calls protecting human life at its beginning an "unbelievable" concept. Full story at LifeNews.com

Researcher: Abortions Cost Economy $35 Trillion Since 1970 in Lost Productivity
Washington, DC (LifeNews.com) -- A researcher who has spent over a decade examining the economic impact of abortion finds that the approximately 50,5 million abortions in the U.S. since 1970 have cost the American economy $35 trillion. That comes in the form of lost productivity by having fewer workers contributing to society. Those contributions also come in the form of taxpayers contributing to state, federal and local governments that would have had more funds to pay teachers, offer health care benefits or put more police on the streets. The cost to the economy also includes the lost support for the social security system, which experts say still presents a host of challenges for the future and questions about whether younger Americans will receive anything from it. Dennis Howard, the president of the pro-life group Movement for a Better America, has researched the economic impact of abortion since 1995. “We found that the 50.5 million surgical abortions since 1970 have cost the U.S. an astonishing $35 trillion dollars," in lost Gross Domestic Product, he told LifeNews.com on Monday. Cancer Survivor: Remember Komen Foundation Donates to Pro-Abortion Group
Washington, DC (LifeNews.com) --
A cancer survivor wants to remind Americans that the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure breast cancer organization has ties to the nation's largest abortion business. Arizona pro-life advocate and cancer survivor David Roney is speaking out against donations to the group or participating in its efforts. Roney, recently founded Survivors For Life, an organization of cancer survivors who oppose embryonic stem cell research. He says he thinks millions of Americans are duped into thinking all of their donations go to cure breast cancer when some of them are given to Planned Parenthood, a leading pro-abortion activist group. "The Komen Foundation, as a result of donations received from the Race for the Cure, donates a considerable amount of the money they raise to Planned Parenthood," he told LifeNews.com last week. "In fact, there has long been a tight relationship between Komen and Planned Parenthood." In fact, as LifeNews.com has reported, chapters of the Komen Race for the Cure breast cancer group gave affiliates of the national abortion business over $700,000 last fiscal year. Komen chapters gave $711,485 from April 1, 2005 to March 31, 2006 to Planned Parenthood affiliates. Full story at LifeNews.com

More People, Not Fewer From Abortions, Would Ease The Economic Crisis
by Colin Mason and Steven Mosher
Clearly population growth in both the U.S. and New Zealand would stimulate the economy, and encourage the recovery of the housing market. In both cases, however, it seems more reasonable to encourage greater fecundity among the existing population, rather than recklessly increase immigration during a financial crisis.
The problem is that childbearing has long since gone out of style with today's intelligentsia, and even the most level-headed of economists are often loath to discuss it. The result is a strange double-standard, where it is acceptable to discuss immigration as a response to the economic crisis, but not the encouragement of childbearing. Full story at LifeNews.com

Researchers Make More Advances With Adult, iPS Stem Cells Than Embryonic
by Dr. David Prentice
Scientists in Germany have shown that adult stem cells with the same flexibility as embryonic stem cells can be grown from human testes tissue. Like embryonic stem cells and iPS (induced pluripotent stem) cells, these human stem cells are pluripotent, showing the ability to grow for long periods in the lab and to form representatives of most or all tissues of the body. This is not the first report of pluripotent stem cells from testes. A different German team had previously published their results producing such flexible stem cells from mouse testes, and a U.S. group had also published their results producing these flexible stem cells from mice, while a U.S. company had claimed they were able to produce flexible stem cells from human testes. However, this German group is the first to publish evidence (online in the journal Nature) that such cells can be made from human testes tissue.
According to senior author Thomas Skutella, "The advantage these cells have in comparison to embryonic stem cells is that there is no ethical problem with these cells and that they are natural." Full story at LifeNews.com

Study: College Students' Peers Affect Abortion Views, Become Less Pro-Life
Los Angeles, CA (LifeNews.com) -- A new study from UCLA finds that college students are more influenced by their peers on hot political topics like abortion than their professors. The study points to how college students are more inclined to support abortion as they become upperclassmen. The study points to the need for more pro-life outreach on college campuses and indicates campus groups are more likely to be liberal in nature and have a strong influence. While 52 percent of college freshmen told UCLA researchers in the study that they support abortion, the same group of students asked two years later as juniors indicated they supported abortion by a 60 percent clip. "People are moving out of the center to the left during college," researcher Alexander Astin said. "If you find yourself in a peer group where on balance the attitudes lean left, you'll tend to move in that direction." Full story at LifeNews.com

Louisiana Pro-Life Group Says Mary Landrieu No Moderate on Abortion
Baton Rouge, LA (LifeNews.com) -- A leading pro-life group in Louisiana is rebutting some of the discussion that has been going around the state in the last few days claiming Sen. Mary Landrieu is a moderate on abortion. Landrieu faces pro-life candidate John Kennedy in her bid for re-election. Benjamin Clapper, the director of Louisiana Right to Life tells LifeNews.com that recent articles in both the Times-Picayune and the Lafayette Daily Advertiser have characterized Sen. Mary Landrieu's record on abortion as "moderate." Clapper calls that notion into question. "If you analyze Senator Landrieu's record, you see that her votes on abortion have been anything but moderate," he said. Overall, he points to the National Right to Life Committee, which gives Landrieu just a 35 percent pro-life voting record during her time in Washington. Full story at LifeNews.com

Elderly Pro-Life Woman Assaulted Outside Abortion Business in Nebraska
Bellevue, NE (LifeNews.com) -- An elderly pro-life woman who had been trying to talk women heading to an abortion business out of having their abortion has been violently attacked. Mary Adam, 72, was knocked to the ground and injured outside a Omaha-area abortion center by the mother of a young woman who had changed her mind. Adam had persuaded a young woman to change her mind about a scheduled abortion. The young lady expressed doubts about the abortion after talking with Mary and indicated she may be willing to have a family adopt her baby. The next day, as Adam stood outside the abortion center to counsel other women, the mother of the young woman approached with her daughter. Full story at LifeNews.com

Texas State Senate Panel to Hold Historic Hearing on Adult Stem Cell Research
Austin, TX (LifeNews.com) -- A Texas legislative committee today will hold a hearing on the benefits associated with adult stem cell research and its moral superiority compared with the use of embryonic stem cells. Today, the Texas Senate Health and Human Services Committee will hear invited and public testimony. The hearing will focus on the current and future state of life-saving adult stem cell research and treatments in Texas and the potential for commercializing that research. After the panel, pro-life advocates will hold a press conference featuring patients who have been successfully treated using adult stem cells for a variety of diseases. Texas Alliance for Life's executive director, Joe Pojman, told LifeNews.com that Lt. Governor David Dewhurst spearheaded the hearing. "He is wisely moving Texas beyond the protracted debate about the ethical problems of creating and destroying human embryos for research into the promising world of adult stem cell treatments that have already saving thousands of lives," Pojman said.
