Archbishop Charles Chaput to Douglas Kmiec: Saying Obama Pro-Life is Wrong
Washington, DC (LifeNews.com) -- In a weekend interview, Alaska governor and John McCain running mate Sarah Palin again highlighted Barack Obama's abortion views. Palin accused Obama of trying to "pretty up" his record during the presidential debate last week even though he supports unlimited abortions throughout pregnancy. Palin made the comments in an interview with CBN News senior correspondent David Brody. "I think the most troubling issue that I know of that Barack Obama is completely the other side of John McCain and that I am on is, is the abortion issue because his abortion stance is so extreme," Palin said. "It's so, so far left that it's way out of the mainstream. I think he's in some sense succeeded in trying to package up, and pretty-up some of his policies to make them look mainstream even on abortion." Palin says she hopes more is done to educate voters between now and the November 4 election to show them how out of step Obama's abortion views are with most Americans. "American voters have got to realize his opposition to parental consent, his opposition to a ban on partial birth abortion and most troubling his opposition to the child born alive act," she said. George Soros Funds Catholic Groups Making Obama Seem Pro-Life on Abortion
Washington, DC (LifeNews.com) -- A Catholic pro-life group says new information adds to the criticism a couple of Catholics organizations have already received for trying to make Barack Obama seem pro-life on abortion. Leading abortion activist and billionaire George Soros is behind the groups. Catholics in Alliance for the Common Good and Catholics United have been working overtime to mask Obama's pro-abortion views. The groups have called him pro-life even though he supports unlimited abortions throughout pregnancy for any reason. In comments sent to LifeNews.com today, Catholic League president Bill Donohue exposes the nexus between George Soros and two left-wing Catholic groups. In 2006, Soros’ Open Society Institute gave Catholics in Alliance $100,000 (double the amount he gave in 2005), Donohue indicates. In the same year, Catholics in Alliance listed Catholics United on its 990 as an organization with which it has a formal relationship. Donohue says John Podesta, who runs the Soros-funded organization, Center for American Progress, admits that he works closely with Catholics in Alliance and Catholics United. “Why would any Catholic organization take money from a man like George Soros? GOP Sends Mailer to North Carolina Voters on Obama's Votes on Abortion Bill
Washington, DC (LifeNews.com) -- The national Republican Party has sent a mailer to thousands of voters in North Carolina targeting Barack Obama's pro-abortion views. The mailer highlights his votes against bills in the Illinois legislature that would have required medical care for newborns who survive failed abortions. While Congress almost unanimously approved a similar bill, with John McCain supporting it, Obama voted against the measure on four occasions. "When it comes to the right to life, Barack Obama doesn't share our values," the headline of the piece reads. "Barack Obama, not who you think he is." The piece references Chicago-area nurse Jill Stanek, who blew the whistle on one hospital leaving babies to die in a soiled utility room when they survived botched abortions. Noting Obama's vote against the bill to provide care in his own committee, the GOP mailer cites the disparity between Obama and abortion advocates in Congress who approved the similar bill. "That's right, even abortion rights advocates like John Kerry and Hillary Clinton voted for the Born Alive Infants Protection Act that Barack Obama opposed," the mailer says. Hundreds of Thousands of Pro-Life Students to Silently Protest Abortion Tuesday
Washington, DC (LifeNews.com) -- As many as 200,000 pro-life students at 4,000 schools in 22 countries plan to take part in the fifth annual Pro-life Day of Silent Solidarity on Tuesday. Sponsored by the pro-life group Stand True, the event has awakened the consciences of millions of teenagers and college students to the reality of abortion. Bryan Kemper, president of the group, tells LifeNews.com that students in the U.S. and other nations will hear a clear pro-life message even though thousands of pro-life students will take a vow of silence to speak up for unborn children. The students will wear red tape over their mouths or red armbands to show their support for protecting women and children from abortion. "The students are speaking loud and clear, they want an end to legalized child killing," he said. "We are getting thousands of e-mails, comments and Internet messages from students thanking us for giving them a peaceful way to stand up and be counted." "Thousands of American babies are permanently silenced every day by the violent act of abortion," Kemper says. NARAL, Abortion Advocates Endorse Washington Assisted Suicide Initiative
Olympia, WA (LifeNews.com) -- Leading pro-abortion groups in Washington have taken the somewhat unusual of step of endorsing a ballot measure that would make the state the second to legalize assisted suicide. A leading pro-life advocate says he's not surprised the pro-abortion movement has linked up with euthanasia advocates. Calling it an "important" vote to "promote progress in Washington" Planned Parenthood of Washington emailed its supporters a copy of a voting guide it compiled along with other liberal groups in the state. The names of the groups endorsing a specific candidate or ballot issue are listed, and NARAL is indicated as endorsing the assisted suicide measure. Dan Kennedy, the head of Human Life of Washington, told LifeNews.com Monday that he's not surprised abortion advocates are endorsing assisted suicide. That puts them as thinking both babies and elderly or disabled people are problems. "It's no surprise that the abortion lobby endorses imposing death on the defenseless," he said. "As the purveyors of the culture of death, their brutal and predatory view of the vulnerable knows no bounds. They make a mockery of compassion by substituting killing for caring." New Jersey Quality Inn, Clarion Hotels Give Women Discounts for Abortions
Cherry Hill, NJ(LifeNews.com) -- Women heading to New Jersey for abortions are getting discounts at two brand name hotels and pro-life advocates are working to expose the practice. An abortion business in Cherry Hill that does abortions up to six months into pregnancy worked out the discounts with two local hotels. New Jersey Right to Life indicates that participants in the local 40 Days for Life prayer campaign have learned that the Cherry Hill Women's Center made the arrangements. The Clarion Hotel in Cherry Hill offers a reduced rate of $59 for a room originally priced at $109 to women staying there from out of town to get an abortion. Women need only show a receipt from the abortion business saying an overnight stay is necessary. In addition, the Quality Inn in Maple Shade offers a discounted rate of $74.95 for a room originally priced at $99.99 and a free breakfast of eggs and pancakes for women who present a stamped pamphlet from the abortion center. Abortion Boat Gives Another Woman Dangerous Drug, Leaving Spain Tonight
Valencia, Spain (LifeNews.com) -- The abortion boat operated by the Dutch-based pro-abortion group Women on Waves has taken another woman from Spain into international water to give her the dangerous abortion drug RU 486. Also know as mifepristone, the drug has killed more than a dozen women worldwide and injured thousands. "This morning when the crew was preparing to leave for a short sailing trip, a woman with an unwanted pregnancy who has spent the night in Valencia, sought help," the group told LifeNews.com in an email statement. 'The captain decided to sail to international waters so that the medical staff could provide her with the abortion pill," the group added. When in international waters, the vessel operates under the local law of its flag, in this case the Netherlands, and law there allows women to obtain the dangerous abortion pill without preconditions. New Ecuador Constitution Sells Out Its Pro-Life Abortion Laws With One Word

The second chapter of article 417 of the recently approved Constitution of Ecuador reads: "The international treaties ratified by Ecuador will be subject to the established tenets of the Constitution. In the case of treaties and other international human rights instruments, these principles will be understood to be pro-human, non-restricting of rights, of direct applicability and of open clause in the Constitution." Notice how "international treaties" and "international human rights instruments" are now considered equivalent, when in reality, the difference is enormous. This change, which would go unnoticed by all but the most perceptive citizen, essentially allows for Ecuadorian laws to be generated by people other than Ecuadorians. In this way, the sovereignty of Ecuador has been sold abroad by its own constitution. Full story at LifeNews.com
