Poll: Americans Back Palin With Heart, Biden Head as Debate Approaches
Washington, DC (LifeNews.com) -- Tonight's debate featuring pro-abortion vice-presidential candidate Joe Biden and pro-life candidate Sarah Palin is a classic case of Americans debating between their hearts and their heads. A new poll finds Americans say Biden knows the issues better but they find Palin more likeable. A new Marist College survey shows a majority of Americans believe Governor Palin will win tonight's debate, which could help her as expectations are lowered and a strong showing could surprise skeptics. The poll also showed Americans say Biden has a better understanding of the issues than Palin by a 2-1 margin. At the same time, 65 percent say Palin will come across as more appealing than Biden, with just 23 percent saying the Delaware senator will be more likeable. The poll also showed that voters have a favorable impression of Palin by a 49-38 percentage point margin while they see Biden as favorable by a 45-34 percent margin. Full story at LifeNews.com
Newspaper: Planned Parenthood Ad on McCain, Palin "Distorts Record" on Women
Washington, DC (LifeNews.com) -- A new television commercial from Planned Parenthood blasting John McCain and Sarah Palin is already coming under criticism from the mainstream media. The St. Petersburg Times, a Florida newspaper, says the ad distorts the record on the two candidates and their record on women. "Under Mayor Sarah Palin, women like Gretchen were forced to pay up to $1,200 for the emergency exams used to prosecute their attackers," the Planned Parenthood ad claims. It goes further to attack Senator McCain, claiming he "voted to let governments charge rape victims." LifeNews.com exposed the misleading nature of the ad on Wednesday and focused on Planned Parenthood's shoddy treatment of Palin. The Times takes on the phony charges against McCain. The Planned Parenthood ad attributes the McCain allegation to a vote on August 25, 1994 on a crime bill that included the Violence Against Women Act. The measure included a provision that required states to provide free forensic exams for rape victims. Planned Parenthood's logic is that because McCain opposed that bill, he voted to let governments charge victims for their rape kits. "That's quite a stretch," the Times responds. "Indeed, McCain voted that day against a conference report on the crime bill, but he opposed it not because of the Violence Against Women provisions, but because it included extra spending that McCain considered unrelated to crime," the newspaper explains. The paper explains that McCain supported the original bill including the Violence Against Women Act -- "So that alone is a significant contradiction of Planned Parenthood's claim." Pro-Life Advocate Says "Pro-Life Obama" Web Site Misleads Voters on Abortion
Washington, DC (LifeNews.com) -- A leading pro-life advocate says the new web site the Matthew 25 Network -- a Democratic activist group -- has put up claiming Barack Obama is pro-life doesn't square with the facts. Wendy Wright, the head of Concerned Women for America, says pro-life voters need to ask some serious questions in response. The "Pro-Life, Pro-Obama" web site features a list of what Obama would do as president and completely ignores his record and position on abortion. There is no mention of Obama's position favor of keeping Roe v. Wade legal, which has resulted in 50 million abortions over the last 35 years. With the web site and ads from leading abortion advocates making misleading claims, Wright says pro-life voters need only to ask themselves a few questions to determine the real pro-life candidate. Voters must check candidates records against their rhetoric -- especially since most candidates now realize that it hurts their chances in national elections to be ardently pro-abortion," she told LifeNews.com. NARAL Ad Attacking McCain, Palin on Abortion May Backfire, Rally Pro-Lifers
Washington, DC (LifeNews.com) -- One of the leading pro-abortion groups in the nation has a new web site ad it is running on news web sites in battleground states. However, the NARAL commercial may backfire and energize pro-life voters behind John McCain and Sarah Palin because it highlights their pro-life views. The ad isn't what political observers might expect from NARAL -- with something akin to the ads the Obama campaign aired saying McCain is too extreme and featuring little in the way of the candidates' own words. NARAL includes eerie music and claims that McCain and Palin are extreme on abortion. It focuses on the candidates' opposition to Roe v. Wade, the case that allowed virtually unlimited abortions throughout pregnancy, and Palin's opposition to abortion in cases of rape and incest. But most of the ad allows the candidates to tout their pro-life views -- which could come back to haunt the pro-abortion group. The ad begins with music that appears to come from any B-rated horror flick and calls McCain and Palin, "dangerous, extreme and radical" on abortion. It then features a montage of the two explaining their pro-life views. Full story at LifeNews.com.

Sarah Palin and Joe Biden Diverge on Abortion in Katie Couric Interviews
Washington, DC (LifeNews.com) -- As Sarah Palin and Joe Biden, the vice-presidential candidates prepare to debate each other tonight, diverged on the issue of abortion in interviews with Katie Couric. Palin said the high court shouldn't have allowed an unlimited abortion right while Biden caused concerns for pro-life advocates with his views. The Supreme Court relied on the privacy right in its Roe v. Wade decision and others, but Palin told the CBS News anchor that the court went too far. Palin says the high court should have left the abortion issue to the states -- where most of the nation protected the life of unborn children prior to Roe. I think it should be a states issue not a federal government-mandated, mandating yes or no on such an important issue, she said. I'm, in that sense, a federalist." And I believe that individual states can best handle what the people within the different constituencies in the 50 states would like to see their will ushered in an issue like that," she added. Meanwhile, Biden said he thinks the liberty clause of the 14th Amendment . . . offers a right to privacy" that allowed for an unlimited right to abortion. Biden also claimed the court's decision in Roe was "as close to a consensus that can exist in a society as heterogeneous as ours" with a middle of the road ruling on abortion. He ignored the fact that the Supreme Court's decision in the Doe companion case essentially allowed abortions for any reason throughout the entirety of pregnancy. Full story at LifeNews.comAnother Woman Injured by Abortion Taken to Hospital From George Tiller's Center
Wichita, KS (LifeNews.com) -- It appears another woman injured by an abortion has been taken from the late-term abortion business run by George Tiller to a local hospital. This is the second woman to need urgent medical care and attention in the last seven days, as a previous patient says Tiller's staff provided shoddy medical care. In this new case, an ambulance arrived at the Women's Health Care Services abortion center about 6:30 p.m. Wednesday evening with lights flashing and sirens blaring. Brandi Lozier was volunteering for the Kansas Coalition for Life outside the abortion facility at the time. She observers an employee driving a van registered to Tiller entering the parking lot at a high rate of speed carrying a Caucasian woman who appeared to be in distress. The van pulled around to the back of the building and began to sound the horn. Lozier called 911 and asked for help and it is unclear whether her call or one from abortion center staff alerted paramedics to arrive at the abortion business. Full story at LifeNews.com

Assistant Administrator for Global Health Dr. Kent Hill, has banned cooperation with UK-based Marie Stopes International (MSI), one of the worlds largest purveyors of abortions, on the grounds that it is complicit in "coercive abortion and involuntary sterilizations" in China. MSI denies that it supports China's coercive policies, but its aggressive promotion of abortion, and its longstanding collaboration with China's coercive program leave little doubt that it is not only aware of the massive human rights abuses that have resulted in that country, but is actively collaborating with it. The USAID instruction, which PRI applauds, will force cutbacks in MSI's population control programs in a number of African countries, including Ghana, Malawi, Sierra Leone, Tanzania, Uganda, Zimbabwe, and Kenya. MSI's claims that woman in these countries "will be left with few options other than abortion" is particularly risible, coming as it does from the very agency that is responsible for many of the abortions that are performed in Africa in the first place. PRI investigators, for example, have demonstrated that MSI, through its network of clinics, is one of the biggest abortion actors in Kenya. For MSI to claim, as it does, that Dr. Hill's order will result in "unsafe abortions" with the "likely result" of women's "death or disability" is not only a gross exaggeration, but should be taken as self-criticism. It is not the Bush Administration's fault if African women and girls die in MSI's clinics. It is the fault of the organization itself. Full story at LifeNews.comRepublican Platform Better Than Democratic on Promoting Abortion Overseas
by Austin Ruse
New York, NY (LifeNews.com/CFAM) -- The platforms of the two major American parties show a stark difference in how each presidential candidate would approach United Nations (UN) issues. The Republican platform explicitly rejects various UN treaties while the Democratic platform makes clear its support for the agenda of wider access to abortion and a strengthening of the UN system of enforcing abortion rights. The Republican platform rejects by name two UN treaties that have been used by UN Committees, UN agencies and non-governmental organizations (NGOs) to promote abortion -- the UN Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination Against Women (CEDAW) and the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child -- and supports the continued defunding of groups overseas that promote or perform abortions. Specifically the GOP platform says, "Because the UN has no mandate to promote radical social engineering, any effort to address global social problems must respect the fundamental institutions of marriage and family. We assert the rights of families in all international programs and will not fund organizations involved in abortion. Full story at LifeNews.com
Even Two-Year-Olds Are Pro-Life, Understand Abortion Destroys a Human Life
by Maria Vitale
I am convinced that all 2-year-olds are pro-life. I formed that conclusion working a pro-life booth at a local county fair. As soon as a 2-year-old's eyes spotted one of the fetal models on the table, he or she would reach out with both arms with an impassioned plea to touch "the babies." One little girl giggled when a model of a 30-week-old unborn baby was placed in her hands. There was not one toddler who came up to the display who did not express delight with the fetal models. In short, they loved them. It is natural for children to be drawn to babies. It's in their DNA. They're amused and captivated by the tiniest human beings. That's why fetal models are a great teaching tool. They show what an unborn child really looks like at various stages of development. Teenagers often express surprise to learn that a child 12 weeks after conception has eyes, fingers, toes. That's because the handiwork of God is hidden, concealed within a pregnant woman's body. Arkansas Man Nearly Hits Pro-Life Advocates With Car Outside Abortion Center
Fayetville, AR (LifeNews.com) -- An Arkansas man nearly hit a group of pro-life outside an abortion business on Tuesday afternoon in this northwest city. Jason Bryant Shireman, 42, was apprehended by police and charged with three counts of aggravated assault following the incident. The pro-life advocates were standing on the curb just off of College Avenue in front of the Fayetteville Women's Clinic abortion business. According to the Northwest Arkansas Times, witnesses at the scene say Shireman purposefully drove his suburban onto the curb in an attempt to hit or scare the sidewalk counselors outside the abortion center. The pro-life advocates consisted mostly of students from Subiaco Academy who were taking part in the 40 Days of Life event. They were praying for the staff of the abortion facility and women going there for abortions at the time of the incident. The paper indicated Shireman told police that he drove onto the sidewalk to show the pro-life students "what he thought about them" but denied trying to hit them with the vehicle. The Times said Shireman was taken to the Washington County jail and later released on a $3,500 bond. He will make an appearance in court on October 29. Full story at LifeNews.com

North Dakota Abortion Center Says it Will Do Record Number of Abortions
Fargo, ND (LifeNews.com) -- There is just one abortion business in the state of North Dakota and its director says she expects it to set a record this year for the number of abortions done. The Red River Women's Clinic in Fargo has been the subject of criticism in the past over bogus medical malpractice insurance and how abortion affects women. The abortion center has been doing abortions for just over ten years and did a record 1,358 abortions in 2003 and another 1,238 abortions last year. Tammi Kromenaker, Rid River's director, tells the Associated Press that the center is on pace for its highest number of annual abortions and is doing about 25 abortions a week. She contends the number of abortions is on the rise because college students have seen funding for birth control and contraception cut. Red River came under fire in August 2004 for refusing to divulge information about an apparently bogus malpractice insurance policy it purchased from an illegitimate Bermuda-based company.
